I'M HAVE HAVING A WONDERFUL TIME WATCHING THE OLYMPICS. SO IS THE REST OF THE WORLD. I FEEL THE SPIRIT, THE CAMARADERIE, THE PRIDE IN AMERICA. I REVEL IN THE TALENT AND DISCIPLINE OUR OUR AMERICAN WINNERS AND PARTICIPANTS.
IT'S ALL JUST A FABULOUS THING. ISN'T IT????
WELL, IT'S ALSO BIG BUSINESS. I don't mind that. I respect free enterprise and making money. I don't get mad at entrepreneurs who manage to do that. But, it's always "fun" to look at the numbers. Studying the business of the Olympics can take a life time. I don't need that many of the details. Everybody makes money---NBC, The Olympics and their Committee, the host city, the vendors, and it goes on and on to the smallest souvenir-maker or bus driver.
NBC paid $1.23 billion for the rights. After the London Olympics, their profit (at least visible) was $120 million. ALREADY FROM RIO NBC HAS MADE $1.2 BILLION IN AD REVENUE.
The Olympics and the Olympics Committee were founded in 1894. The Olympics and their Committee took home $ 6 billion from 2005-2008. It's going higher, and it has doubled since Turin.
HERE IS MY POINT. ALL THIS MONEY IS MADE. THE OLYMPICS GO TO A CITY, AND FILL IT WITH GLORY AND MONEY, AND THEN LEAVE.
WHAT HAPPENS TO THAT CITY? IT ROTS!!!! LOOK AT THESE PHOTOS BELOW AND SEE THAT ALL THAT MONEY MEANS NOTHING. WHAT A DISGUSTING WASTE.

Couldn't ANY of the billions earned go to preservation and re-purposing to help the human beings who live there?
