MICHAEL HOLMES' PURPLE ROOM IS THE SUPPER CLUB OF THE DESERT. IT HAS BEEN COMPLETELY REDONE BY MY DEAR FRIEND, DICK TAYLOR, WHO, AMONG MANY OTHER PRESTIGIOUS POSITIONS, INCLUDING BEING PRESIDENT OF ROGERS AND COWAN, WAS THE TALENT DIRECTOR OF THE COCONUT GROVE AT THE AMBASSADOR HOTEL. THE PURPLE ROOM IS NOW AN HOMAGE TO THE COCONUT GROVE, AND IMPRESARIO DICK BROUGHT IN TOMMY TUNE TO KICK-OFF THE NEW ROOM. Congratulations to Michael and Dick.

Ten time Tony winner Tommy Tune is a joy to behold. He is an elegant gentleman, a song and dance man who represents a longed-for era. His taps are clean and precise, his voice as sweet as honey, and his act reminiscing about his life and work is pure Heaven. His three-night stand sold-out in about an hour. All the groups of "locals" were there, minus-95-year-old Carol Channing, who was just a little too tired to come opening night.

ANOTHER THING THAT'S GO GREAT ABOUT THE PURPLE ROOM IS THAT IS ACTUALLY HAS TERRIFIC FOOD BY CHEF JENNIFER TOWN. Usually the food is so awful at these types of clubs---BUT NOT HERE!
