24 HOURS IN NEW YORK---BEFORE LONDON

I'M RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HUGE SNOW STORM IN NYC. BRIDGES AND SOME HIGHWAYS ARE CLOSED. STREETS ARE CLOSED.

Today in NY when the snow was just a flutter or two, I went over to Marlo Thomas' apartment and watched her tape two segments of "Mondays with Marlo." Her website is part of the aol/Huffington Post merger, and it gets great numbers and is, I think is one of the best sites for women on the net.
Her guests today were Joel Harper, Dr. Oz' fitness trainer and expert extraordinaire. He is partnered with Dr. Oz and Dr. Michael Roizen. His tips for women's health and exercise were terrific.

Next up was one of the co-founders of Birchbox. com, Katia Beauchamp.
Co-founders Hayley Barna and Katia Beauchamp met at Harvard Business School. With inspiration from Hayley’s beauty editor best friend Mollie Chen, they created Birchbox to help consumers cut through the clutter of the retail world to find products that really work for them.

Birchbox is an amazing idea where women subscribe for $10 a month and get a box each month of samples to try. They take products from every company and introduce them to their subscribers.

The tips given by Katia and Joel can be seen on marlothomas.com

-----------------------AND THEN THERE'S DON PEPPE'S IN QUEENS--------------------

The restaurant is a plain front on Lefferts Blvd. For 55 years it has been home to, how shall we say this, very CONNECTED people. It was allegedly started by The Genoveses and Lucky Luciano. Therefore, you'd better believe the food is good. The son of one of the original owners still runs it, and I'm just going to say that it was really fun to watch their "regular customers."

Below is a dish called Shrimp Luciano. It was Lucky's favorite and now I know why. It was the most delectable, refined, simple Italian dish I have ever tasted.

The cannoli was stuffed with a cream that was so outrageously incredible that it drives one into a frenzy.
Melt in your mouth veal with lemon and butter.

When the waiter comes to your table he tells you that you cannot make ANY changes whatsoever to the menu and you must pay cash. I just loved it there. And they treat all customers very, very well. I can't wait to go back.
