THROUGH GEORGIA SPOGLI WE HEARD OF SOME MARINES IN OR NEAR CAMP PENDLETON WHO ARE RAISING MONEY TO SEND ESSENTIALS TO OUR SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN IN AFGHANISTAN.
|ME, STAFF SERGEANT VASQUEZ AND ALEXANDRA|
Above is Staff Sergeant Edwin J. Vasquez. He and Dennis Flores, without any military or government help, are raising money to send packages to Afghanistan. A typical package might be deodorant, toothpaste, a toothbrush, soap, and peanut butter and jelly. AGAIN, THEY ARE DOING THIS ON THEIR OWN WITHOUT MILITARY HELP OR SUPPORT FROM OUR GOVERNMENT. They even have to pay the postage themselves!!!!. They go shopping and buy what they need for the packages, box them up and mail them themselves.
Staff Sergeant is on his way to his FOURTH tour (Iraq and Afghanistan). He has sustained injuries, seen his friends blown up, and he's going back for more to protect all of us. He is a saint. All the women attending gave their money and support to him directly. That's what these evenings are about.
By the way, the Sergeant told us that although surviving spouses of killed soldiers do get $400, 000 from the government, THEY ARE TAXED ON IT. He was also very clear on which political party really takes care of the military.
